Sugaring off Festival-Cabane au Sucre

We are very fortunate in St.-Pierre-Jolys to have a Sugar Shack.   Although these are very common in the province of Quebec, they are not many in the west.  We have the only one in Manitoba.

That is what I love about St.Pierre!   There is a French flavor to the village and I can get all the services in French if I so want.  I like being able to speak in both official languages in the village.   My son has been raised here all his little 8 years.  He speaks French as his first language and also speaks English very well.  I love only working 15 minutes away and being able to come home each night and enjoying the peace and tranquility that St.Pierre has to offer.

Festival du Voyageur

There are lots of people that think that Quebec and Ottawa have the only Francophone Winter Festivals!   However, the Manitobans have their own taste of Francophone culture right here in Manitoba!   Festival du Voyageur is our own take on the winter Festival and it does not disappoint! Live bands, snow sculpting,  Maple syrup on snow, better known as taffy on snow, and so much more!

There are many volunteers from St. Pierre-Jolys that give their time for this event.  Our museum gets most of their monies needed to run it through the tireless volunteers we have that run the Sugar Shack part of the Festival. Our museum is a the old convent and school and it has an excellent group looking after it and through the Festival, we have many people from my little town making a difference and showing our French spirit and representing us at Festival du Voyageur!

Trans-Canada Trail

I love going out walking on a regular basis.  When I moved to my cute little French town, I didn't realize that we had a section of the Trans-Canada Trail going through my village.  The Trans-Canada Trail is a walking trail that is built throughout Canada.  It was built as another way to explore our beautiful country, Canada.  St. Pierre is fortunate enough to have a section of the trail known as the Crow Wing Trail or Chemin St.Paul.  I learned through further exploration that this trail is along the similar route that was used as the north/south passage for people to trade and use in the 1800s.  It is now part of our walking trail and it is very nice to walk, bike, and even horseback ride on.

How lucky that I can go on a portion of this picturesque trail that is in my own backyard!
